This is a 110 cm white oak, walnut, hickory and iroko speargun. The mechanism is made to fit directly into the stock. The mechanical line release is located on the bottom. I intend to put two 16 mm bands and a 6.5 mm shaft.

The oak core :

Only the handle will be made of hickory:

The next step is adding the walnut sides on the stock and the hickory on the handle. The walnut I use is very boyant and will hopefuly help make the gun neutral. Once I trim down the wood into it's intended shape it will be a rather light gun.

I glued one walnut side at a time.

Roughly shaped...

Perhaps the real difficulty with making a speargun since you have to visualise the shape before you start grinding away layers of wood. It's like sculpting and certainly the step that gives the gun its uniqueness.

Getting there...

The new mechanism. The thing is smooth as can be.

Hickory core and iroko sides.

The paler iroko is harder than the rest.

Put the epoxy...

Only need to put bands.

Loaded with a single 19mm band, probably as much as it needs anyway. I could put two 16 mm with a 7 mm shaft. Again, notice how the bands naturally align with the shaft.
